Talia Castellano's PledgePage

Talia's symptoms started after a long weekend in January with her Dad's family in Naples, FL. As Talia boarded a plane to go back to her Mom, she told her Dad that her side hurt a little. Upon landing, she told her Mom that her chest hurt and that she was congested. Her mother immediately took her to the clinic where they placed Talia on an antibiotic. They suspected that she had a cold.

After a week of fevers, her mother decided to take her to her regular doctor and was told that Talia was fine. Not convinced of this her parents insisted on lab work and a chest X-Ray. The results form these tests came back normal.

After another week of unexplained fevers, Talia's Dad brought her to another doctor for a second opinion. After a thorough exam, she told us that Talia looked like she was getting better and was fine to go back to school.

Within one week, the school called Talia’s mom explaining that Talia had a fever of 102. This was on Valentine’s Day. Her mother then decided to take Talia to the emergency room at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

Even at the ER, after more blood work, Talia’s mother was told that Talia was fine and to go home. Talia’s Mom was not satisfied and had a feeling that Talia was not “fine”. She then insisted that the Emergency Room physician perform further tests. Hesitant, the physician ordered another Chest X-Ray. This time the results showed that Talia's lymph nodes were enlarged.

Initially it was thought that she had lymphoma, however, a biopsy performed the next day concluded that she has Neuroblastoma.
